On Boxing Day Dronfield based Peak Rides CC rider Ryan raced the Ilkeston CC hill climb up Bath Street Ilkeston. A great event with over a hundred entries including a certain Sir David Brailsford. A very warm day for the time of year meant some quick times. Ryan coming second in the youth section, with 01:14:03 which would have been fast enough for 7th in the seniors.
On Saturday 29th Ryan took part in round nine of the Notts and Derby Cyclo-Cross league at Bakewell in what were the toughest and muddiest conditions of the season so far.
A race full of incidents saw Ryan get off to a strong start working his way through the field from the 5th row of the grid. But a dropped chain and fall just before the hurdles slowed his progress. Not to be deterred, Ryan kept on riding hard and managed to get into the top ten places before disaster struck. On one of the steep climbs just at the top Ryan’s chain broke and wrapped itself around the frame and wheel. Nevertheless, he shouldered his bike and ran for the pits through the fastest section of the course. Jumping onto his spare bike, he’d lost a lot of places but despite this he picked off a couple of riders to end in a very creditable 15th place.
For 2019 Ryan would like to complete the Cross season and ride the regional champs, before turning back to the road season where a high placing in the Mallory league is his main aim and keeping hold of his British Schools and Cycling Time Trial regional titles.
We predict this talented young lad is destined for great things, based on his achievements so far. Well done Ryan.
